Haapsalu - Estonia, April 3, 2025 – Levira has inaugurated a new 126-meter broadcasting tower in Uuemõisa, near Haapsalu, ensuring continued high-quality television and radio transmission in the region. The company has invested nearly €200,000 in the construction of the tower.
The new structure stands next to the previous tower, built in 1983, which is nearing the end of its service life. The old tower will be dismantled in the autumn of 2025, once all broadcasting equipment has been fully transferred to the new mast.
The foundation of the tower measures 3x3 meters, with piles reaching a depth of approximately 10-12 meters. The longest guy wires supporting the structure extend 138 meters.
In an effort to reduce energy consumption, the tower site is equipped with a 50 kW50-kW solar power plant, covering approximately one-fourth of the tower's electricity needs. Additionally, a backup generator ensures uninterrupted operation during emergencies.
The tower was built by Scanmast OY, with BauEest OÜ as the project designer, in collaboration with several partners, including Mikrovai, MitiProjekt, REI Geotehnika, Boftel, and others. IB Telora was responsible for owner’s supervision.
"The construction of the Haapsalu broadcast tower was an exciting and technically challenging project for BauEest OÜ. We are pleased that the collaboration between all parties, including Levira’s international partners, was highly constructive and goal-oriented," said Toomas Toompuu, Chairman of the Board at BauEest OÜ.
"Our possibility to deliver the new broadcast/telecom mast in Haapsalu represents key milestone for Scanmast endeavoring increased market presence. Taking such strategic step in close cooperation with customer Levira AS puts us in the front seat understanding the needs and requirements of critical tower infrastructure in Estonia," said Björn Kähärä, Head of Sales Finland and Baltics at Scanmast OY.
"To ensure high-quality TV and radio transmission, broadcasting infrastructure must be regularly upgraded. It became evident to us that the old mast, which had been in operation for over 40 years, had reached the end of its lifespan. Thanks to our excellent partners, the new mast is now ready to serve Haapsalu and its surrounding areas. This new structure will also play a crucial role in maintaining uninterrupted broadcasting, ensuring reliable information flow even in crisis situations," said Kristo Kaasan, CTO & IT Director at Levira.
